Steven McCuen, 33, pleaded guilty to aggravated driving under the influence (DUI) and leaving the scene of the incident. He was sentenced to 16 and 14 years in prison on those charges, and he must serve those terms consecutively.

Dale Nelson, 16, was riding bikes with friends Aug. 14 in southwest Bloomington when he was struck by a vehicle driven by McCuen. Nelson was found unresponsive in a ditch. McCuen fled the scene—Six Points Road between Alexander Road and Morris Avenue—but was arrested the next day. Nelson died a week later in the hospital.

Prosecutors said McCuen's previous criminal history related to driving under the influence made him eligible for stiffer sentencing.
