Former US Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood now has a stretch of highway named after him in his hometown of Peoria. The section of Interstate 74 running through the city's downtown was the focus of a $500 million, multi-year upgrade that LaHood was a driving force behind. In yesterday's ceremony, LaHood insisted the honor shouldn't go to him alone but to all of those who worked on the project. He boasted of the road's quality, saying, "You don't see many potholes, even after a brutal winter." Governor Pat Quinn attended the ceremony. The Democrat praised the Republican LaHood for his bipartisan leadership as a congressman and Cabinet secretary. Quinn said central Illinois is known for that unity of purpose.
