A change in management at the historic Normal Theater. Longtime Manager Dawn Riordan has resigned after nearly 20 years in the post. The theater is a division of the Parks and Recreation Department in Normal and shows everything from classic films to art films, and oscar winning short films and documentaries. City Manager Mark Peterson says they are reconfiguring the position to include some of the original vision for the theater as a performing arts anchor for the uptown area.
Peterson says the town is grateful for Riordan's service and her film expertise. He says she will spend more time with her family. He says the job had reached a point where she would acknowledge the job consumed her life and wasn't healthy. He says the departure is bittersweet. He says they may market more to performing groups and music groups while still emphasizing cinema. Krystal Thomas is the interim manager for the Parks and Recreation Department. Thomas is also the before and after school program coordinator for Parks and Recreation. So, Peterson says there is a certain amount of urgency to fill the position on a permanent basis. Peterson says the town may eventually hold an event to thank Riordan for her service.
