Recently retired federal judge and former ISU Trustees Chair Michael McCuskey has a new job, Circuit Judge. The Illinois Supreme Court has assigned McCuskey to fill a vacancy as resident Circuit Judge in Marshall County. McCuskey will hear cases largely in Peoria. He now lives in Lacon. The court calendar and courtroom will be the same one in which he began after being elected judge in 1988. State Supreme Court Justict Thom Kilbride says it would be hard to think of anyone who would be a better fit and that McCuskey comes back to circuit court with more experience than you can custom order. While head of the ISU Trustees, McCuskey came in for criticism of his chairmanship of the search committee that chose Tim Flanagan to be ISU President. Flanagan lasted less than a year in the job. McCuskey defended the choice saying he sleeps well at night.
