Social media parody accounts come and go, but the Peoria mayor's reaction to his fake Twitter account might stick in people's minds. Ardis authorized a police raid on the home of the account's holder, Jon Daniel, in order to stop the crude tweets. ISU Communications professor Becky Hayes says the mayor's reaction was over the top.
"No one outside of Peoria would have known about this unless he had called in police to address this."
The American Civil Liberties Union of Illinois filed a lawsuit last week against Ardis, citing he violated Daniel's freedom of speech. Ardis says he's filing his own defamation case against Daniel.
