Barges Count On River Improvements Shipping their harvest on barges through the vast riverway system is vital for Midwest farmers, but many say the system of locks and dams on major rivers is decaying and out of date. House and Senate negotiators in Washington recently reached agreement on a bill to authorize improvements to the river system. President Obama is expected to sign the measure, but the changes wonít happen overnight. IPR's Rich Egger has the story:
