The third floor of the Illinois Executive Mansion is closed because of a badly leaking roof. Authorities had to remove furniture from two bedrooms in the historic property to prevent water damage. Officials blame the harsh winter and the 44-year-old roof for the leaks, but say there are no immediate plans for repairs. A governor's spokesman says the leaking roof "is not an ideal situation," but says maintenance work will be "deferred." Dave Bourland is curator of the 159-year-old Italianate home in downtown Springfield. He says the water that's seeping through the ceiling has caused plaster to fall. For now, floors are covered in plastic and he is using buckets to catch the water. The furniture is in a storage facility.
