Household Hazardhouse Waste Collection events are one approval away from being funded by local government entities. The Bloomington City Council has signed off on an intergovernmental agreeement that will give money to the Ecology Action Center to coordinate every-other year collection events. Director of the EAC, Michael Brown, says asking for funding from local instead of state government is a better route.
"We know that state funding has become very irregular due to state budget cutbacks. And so while we are applying for state funding and will gratefully accept it when it becomes available. we are looking at this as a more reliable way to provide for the needs of the community."
This agreement is the result of over a year of planning, following unprecedented attendance at a September 2012 Household Hazardhous Waste event. The Town of Normal will consider the agreement next month.
