The Illinois Historic Preservation Agency and the Lincoln Home National Historic Site are presenting a series of programs marking the 50th anniversary of the Civil Rights Act. The first of five programs is a panel discussion June 5 at the Lincoln Home National Historic Site in Springfield. Authors and scholars on the panel will talk about the 1964 law's connection to the Civil War and Reconstruction eras. Other programs are planned on June 12, June 19, June 26 and July 2. The final program on July 2, the anniversary of the law's enactment, will take place at the Old State Capitol State Historic Site in Springfield. Special guests and dignitaries will reflect on the landmark legislation and tell personal stories about their fight for civil rights.
