Bloomington firefighters say flames from improperly used smoking materials did more than $100,000 damage to a home in the 700 Block of East Grove Street early this morning. The fire started on the porch of the two story home and firefighters found the entire front engulfed when they arrived about 2:30 a.m. Four people were home at the time and three of them were unable to get out the front of the building. Police and the owner used a ladder to evacuate the residents off the roof in the back of the house. The fire extended to the second floor and attic. It took firefighters more than four hours to put out. Residents say they do not have renters insurance. The structure was insured.
