Two police officers in Normal are being honored for saving a life. Sergeant Rob Cherry and Officer Ross Muckey were answering a burglary in progress call about a month ago. A person had forced entry into a residence and attacked some of the occupants. Police say Cherry and Muckey found the suspect and switched from arresting to treating when they found he had multiple stab wounds to the neck and upper chest. The department says Cherry and Muckey applied direct pressure bandages to the wounds to slow the bleeding enough for the man to survive until he could be taken to a Peoria hospital by helicopter. Police administrators say the actions exhibit the department's core values.
