A new survey finds the City of Bloomington is the ninth most exciting place in Illinois. Evanston finished first in the Movoto blog on the lighter side of real estate. The criteria used to generate the ranking reflect on the recent debate over whether to drastically cut city cultural and recreational offerings to balance the budget. Bloomington Economic Development Coordinator Justine Robinson says quality of life issues matter.
"Surveys like this really do suggest that when residents or individuals are looking for communities to locate they want to know what opportunities lie ahead for them in terms of recreational or cultural aspects they want communities that can entertain them, not just in the short term, but in the long term."
One particular factor that helped Bloomington place highly is that 27% of the population is aged 18 to 34. Champaign finished just ahead of Bloomington in 7th place.
