Mitsubishi Motors North America is very pleased with April sales results. The company with an assembly plant in Normal reports a nearly 47% increase in sales last month. It was the second highest monthly total for the company in the last two years, exceeded only by March. It was the best April tally for Mitsubishi since 2011. Healthy results over the last two months more than offset weather related slowdowns in January and February. Mitsubishi sales for the first third of the year are up 29%. Sales of the Outlander Sport model made in Normal are up 24% for the month and by a third for the year so far. Industry-wide, strong demand for pickup trucks and SUVs is helping sales rebound from the rough winter. Even General Motors saw an increase in spite of bad publicity from recalling seven million vehicles. Analysts are expecting an industry-wide sales gain of at least 8.5 percent compared with last April. That would mark the best April for the industry since 2005. Chrysler had its best April in seven years. Nissan posted a record. There were some soft spots. Ford's overall sales fell slightly. Volkswagen was down sharply.
