John Paul II: Canonized Yet Controversial (John McHale)
For Catholics worldwide, the canonization in Rome this Sunday of Popes John the Twenty-third and John Paul the Second is a cause for celebration. But Illinois State University Professor John McHale has misgivings about the sainthood of Pope John Paul. He's co-authored a new book that criticizes John Paul's legacy with regard to the role of women in the church, priestly celibacy and the clergy sex abuse scandal. McHale spoke with WGLT's Judy Valente.

John McHale is a communications professor at Illinois State University. His book, "Saintly Sex" is co-authored with Anthony Alioto, a professor of ethics, philosophy and religious studies at Columbia College in Missouri.
