An uptown Normal Restaurant gets a town grant to help with an expansion and building update. The owner of "The Rock" on North Street will receive $82,000 for safety work to replace a rear wooden stairway with an iron one. A request for a digital sign on the east side of the building was denied. That issue could be re-visted at a later time, Mayor Chris Koos says the Uptown Design Review Commission and other businesses should be consulted. The restaurant is expanding into the adjacent storefront at the corner of Broadway and North Streets. The town council also cleared the way for construction of a Hyatt hotel at 200 Broadway that would be eight stories tall. The council is waiving a height code, as well as codes covering exterior lighting and signage.
