Some of Illinois' better-known Republicans plan to discuss their support for federal immigration reform later in the day. The Illinois Business Immigration Coalition is planning a Tuesday afternoon event with former US House Speaker Dennis Hastert, former Governors Jim Edgar, Jim Thompson and other Republicans. Some planning to attend are seeking office, including Illinois gubernatorial candidate Bruce Rauner and state Senator Jim Oberweis, who's running for US Senate. Several business executives will also be there, including those from Caterpillar and from Crate and Barrel. Organizers say the idea is to publicly support immigration reform and urge a vote in the U.S. House.
