The Illinois Supreme Court is the state's highest court. It determines the constitutionality of laws passed by the legislature. It also reviews decisions of lower courts to determine whether the law has been properly applied. Rita Garman is the Illinois Supreme Court's Chief Justice. She has served on that court since 2001 and was selected chief justice by her peers last October. WGLT's Judy Valente talked with Justice Garman about some recent rulings and other legal issues the court is considering.
Rita Garman is only the second woman to serve as Chief Justice of the Illinois Supreme Court.
