Lawyers for Illinois Treasurer Dan Rutherford are expected to appear in court to ask a judge to throw out a lawsuit filed by a former employee. A hearing is scheduled today in US District Court in Chicago. Edmund Michalowski accused Rutherford in January of sexual harassment and making him do political work while on state time. Rutherford has denied the claims and says they're politically motivated. The lawsuit came in the midst of Rutherford's bid for the Republican nomination for Illinois governor. Rutherford's lawyers want the judge to dismiss the case. They argue Michalowski's claims about campaign work on state time aren't plausible. The lawyers also say Michalowski doesn't show he was harassed or discriminated against. And they argue Rutherford is entitled to government immunity.
