Young adult readers want to hear about hope as they encounter the timeless problems of growing up. Joan Bauer is a New York Times best-selling author of novels for children and young adults. Bauer was in town recently to visit Chiddix Junior High School in Normal as part of a tour of Illinois schools. Bauer talks with WGLT's Judy Valente about growing up in the Chicago suburbs, about her latest novel, and how she tries in her stories to offer young adults that flickering flame of encouragement to beckon them forward.
Joan Bauer's latest book is "Almost Home." She's won the Los Angeles Times Book Prise, the Chicago Tribune Young Adult Literary Prize and has been honored by the American Library Association.
