An Assistant Fire Chief for the Town of Normal is retiring after more than 26 years with the department. John Grussing says he will enjoy retirement, but it will be difficult to find something to do that is as rewarding and meaningful as his service with the town. Fire Chief Mick Humer says Grussing is an example to everyone that you can start as a firefighter and with hard work and determination end as a chief officer. Grussing oversaw all training programs, fleet maintenance, and the technical rescue unit.
