Winter Whacks Home Sales One Last Time

Rotten winter weather hampered home sales in Bloomington Normal all the way through the end of March. The Association of Realtors reports first quarter totals are down 23% compared to last year. The 392 homes and condos that changed hands in the quarter are 125 fewer than for the same period in 2013. The average price of a home sold is also off by nearly 8% at about $159,000. Sales of new homes were in the single digits for the third month in a row. Realtor commissions also took a hit. the total dollar value of the property sold was off nearly 29% for the quarter. Nearly half the first quarter drop in sales happened in March.
