Bloomington Thunder Joins USHL The Bloomington Thunder hockey team will face opponents from Green Bay Wisconsin and Fargo North Dakota as a USHL team. The tier I junior hockey league is for players 16 to 20 years old. The Thunder had been part of the Southern Professional Hockey League, and will continue to host games at the US Cellular Coliseum in downtown Bloomington. The Thunder is one of two teams joining the USHL this year, the other is from Madison Wisconsin. The USHL has been around for a dozen years, and evolved from the old American Amateur Hockey League of the 1940's and 50's.
