Dietz Takes Reins As ISU President Illinois State University's new president begins his duties today after accepting the post during a special campus meeting. Larry Dietz takes over as the ISU's 19th president after Timothy Flanagan resigned amid a swirl of controversy and legal problems. Dietz says he's looking forward to a busy schedule which will include filling administrative posts and working on the budget.

Dietz is tasked with replacing himself as Vice President of Student Affairs and for finding a replacement for Provost Sheri Everts, who announced last week she'll accept the post as chancellor at Appalachian State University this summer. Flanagan submitted his resignation Saturday after 8 months on the job. He's accused of assaulting a grounds superintendent he later fired. A special prosecutor is determing whether charges will be filed in the case after an ISU Police investigation. Flanagan's term was also clouded by his absence at key legislative budgetary hearings in Springfield. He recieved a $480,000 severance package. Dietz will be paid $350,000 annually for three years.
