The McLean County literary community is mourning the death of poet James McGowan. McGowan taught English literature at Illinois Wesleyan University, was a well-known translator of Baudelaire's poems and a tireless promoter of Illinois poets. He helped establish such twin city literary festivals as the Illinois Writers Conference and WordsFair. McGowan had suffered in recent years from lung disease. He was 75.
Earlier this year, GLT aired a remembrance of McGowan's long career in poetry.
