Sales of Mitsubishi vehicles were down slightly last month compared to February last year. Overall sales for the Japanese automaker with a plant in Normal dropped 1.2% but in a company release officials note sales of the core Outlander, Outlander Sport, Lancer and Mirage models were up nearly 9%. The Sport CUV, built in Normal, again was the company leader, making up 39% of the company's sales.
Year-to-date overall sales are up 1.3%. February's slight drop-off broke a four-month string of year-over-year increases. There were only 3 all-electric Mitsubishi I vehicles sold last month, compared to 337 February of last year. Ford, GM and Toyota all saw sales drop between 1% and 6% last month. Auto industry analysts put much of the blame on the harsh weather. Mitsubishi's Excecutive Vice President of Sales Don Swearingen promises big increases in March, thanks to company incentives aimed at depleting inventory and increased TV advertising.
