Bloomington Mayor Tari Renner's pick for 5th Ward Alderman is a retired educator and community activist. Renner says he is submitting Joni Painter for a confirmation vote.
"She has a breadth of experience and a real sense of community. I really look forward to working with her if the Council approves her on Monday."
Painter has worked as a school librarian, and in the field of substance abuse counseling. She is currently serving on the Bloomington Library Board and the Board of the Prairie Community Foundation. Painter is a past President of the McLean County League of Women Voters and has held a statewide position with the League. Painter says she hopes to be a good listener for the Ward.
"We have all got to worry about our roads. I think that is a big concern. I think that also we need to keep our economy going well."
Mayor Renner says he chose Painter from a highly qualified field of five applicants and that Alderman rated her highly during consultations with council members. Painter would replace Jennifer McDade who resigned less than a year into her second term. Painter would also run during a special election a year from April.
