Randy Dunn Named SIU President
A former Illinois state superintendent of education has been chosen as Southern Illinois University's new president. The SIU board of trustees announced today Randy J. Dunn will be the university's eighth president, replacing Glenn Poshard. Poshard is retiring in June. Dunn is currently president of Youngstown State University in Ohio and was a finalist for ISU's presidency a year ago. Randal Thomas is chairman of the SIU board. He says Dunn ``has both the skills and the background to ensure that SIU continues to live up to its mission of providing a quality education.'' Dunn was chairman of SIU-Carbondale's education administration department in 2004 when he took leave to serve as state superintendent of Illinois' public schools. He left that post in 2006 to become president at Murray State University in Kentucky.
