McLean County Board Chairman Matt Sorenson has named the members of a mental health advisory group and it reads like a who's who of the healthcare, justice, and human service systems in the county. The full County Board will take up the proposal next week. Sorenson briefed members of the board Executive Committee saying he wants two separate sub groups of the advisory panel, one to explore best practices, the other to do a needs assessment. Sorenson cautions the scope of duties of the panel should not be limited to what the county government currently provides. Various other service deliverers have an impact on what Sorenson says has become the largest mental health service provider in the county, the county jail. The needs assessment group will be chaired by County Board member John McIntire. And County Board member Sonny O'Connor will chair the best practices group. Included as members are judges, the head of Chestnut Health Systems, representatives of both area hospital systems, various County Board members, the State's Attorney, the Sheriff, the Mayors of Bloomington and Normal, a representative of the Connect Transit Board, the League of Women Voters Committee head that recently issued a study on mental health delivery, and representatives of various community health groups. There is an open ended due date for the extensive review.
