Major Water Service Disruption In Peoria

Much of the city of Peoria is without water due to a break in a water main. A 30-inch transmission main was broken at the intersection of NE Jefferson and Abingdon Streets. As a result, large portions of the Peoria area were without water service, including OSF St. Francis and Methodist Medical Centers as well as Bradley University. Illinois American Water reports some areas experienced a drop in pressure due to the break. The company says when water service is restored, a boil order will be in effect. Any water to be used for drinking or cooking should be brought to a rolling boil for 5 minutes prior to consumption. Water is OK for bathing, washing and other common uses. It is standard practice for a boil order to be in effect for 36 hours after water service is restored.
