Police in Pekin have this year issued more than 500 tickets and dozens of tows for vehicles that continue to be parked on streets after heavy snowfalls. Each of those 504 tickets costs $100. Officials at City Hall say it is the city's second citywide parking ban. The ban prohibits parking on major streets that are designated snow routes, which means vehicles left on curbs are targets for tickets. City Manager Joe Wuellner says the rules were publicized when the latest ban began earlier this week. He and others say it's a matter of safety. City officials are encouraging residents to stay informed with more weeks of winter ahead.
