Bloomington Firefighters have rescued a woman who fell through ice as she attempted to rescue her drowning dog. Firefighters say neighbors Mike and Marcia Young heard cries for help outside their home on Monterrey Road and saw a woman 30 feet out from the shore of a detention pond flailing about in the water. A firefighter wearing a cold weather wet suit and a rope eased out onto the ice and pulled the woman and her dog to safety. Both were treated for hypothermia. Firefighters say even in this period of extended cold weather ice can remain thin in spots and no one should go out on ponds even to rescue a pet.
