Bloomington-Normal Police usually deal with identity theft cases involving local victims who have had their credit card accounts hijacked to buy merchandise sent elsewhere. Officers in Normal say they've found an instance of an alleged crime happening the other way around. A 21 year old woman living in Normal is under arrest for opening credit card accounts for people living in other states and having the credit cards sent to several addresses in Normal. Nofisat Adenekan allegedly used the cards to defraud financial institutions and participate in a continuing financial criminal enterprise. Police say the investigation also turned up allegations Adenekan did the same kind of thing in Dekalb and that the stolen financial information used to create the credit card accounts came from outside the country. The Department of Homeland Security and the Postal Service are also part of the ongoing probe.
