You may want to call the train station before leaving home to catch a train this morning. Amtrak is running on a limited schedule because of cold weather in central and northern Illinois. More than a dozen trains are canceled into and out of the passenger rail's Chicago hub, although service isn't scrapped entirely. Some trains traveling between Chicago and St. Louis through Bloomington-Normal, Carbondale, Champaign, Quincy, Macomb and Milwaukee and Detroit are running on limited schedules. Amtrak officials say the cancelations are "precautionary" and are aimed at keeping service from stopping entirely on routes because of the extreme weather.
