Bloomington is again taking input from residents concerning the downtown, which has been stagnating for years with a few exceptions. Bob Yehl of the Public Works Department says the hearings will be held at 11 O'clock in the morning and again at 5 O'clock in the afternoon next Wednesday. The meetings will be at the Community Room in the Government Center, 115 East Washington Street in downtown. The city's already retained a consultant to put together a Downtown Streetscape Lighting plan. The city of Bloomington has been eyeing improvements to traffic paterns, parking, lighting, and streetscaping for years. Three streets have reverted to two-way from one-way, and Washington Street now has a single traffic lane along with left turn lanes, but resistence to any substantial changes has stymied efforts at changing the north-south street alignments, and zoning alterations.
