UofI Band Director Pleads Guilty To Instrument Thefts The former director of bands at the University of Illinois has pleaded guilty to stealing musical instruments from the school and sentenced to a form of probation. Robert Rumbelow pleaded guilty to one count of felony theft. He was sentenced to two years conditional discharge. According to prosecutors the 48-year-old Rumbelow stole tens of thousands of dollars worth of instruments in 2012 and sold them. He put the money in a personal bank account and initially claimed he sold them to help finance building repairs for his department on campus. He resigned from his job and repaid the university $87,600 for the value of the instruments.
