The Washington Illinois library is trying to piece together its collection of books, DVDs and other material that were damaged or destroyed during November's tornadoes. It's not known how many items that were loaned out were lost in the storms. Library Director Randall Yelverton figures at least $10,000 in material was destroyed, including "the most popular books" that are frequently checked out by patrons. A powerful tornado destroyed more than 1,000 homes in Washington on the 17th of Norvember. Yelverton says he understands returning library items is a low priority for people who are trying to rebuild their homes and says the facility isn't fining anyone for late returns.
