Comedian Tig Notaro is a rising star. The comedian is a frequent guest on Conan O'Brien and other late night shows. She credits her appearance on the This American Life live stage show with a career boost. And her decision to go public -- on stage -- with her bi-lateral breast cancer diagnosis also generated attention. Arguably one of the hotest comedians working today, Louis C.K. tweeted about the set, calling it truly great, masterful standup. He put the routine on his website with most of the proceeds going to Notaro and she gave some of that to cancer research.
Her new CD of that set, ambiguously titled, by the way -- we'll get into that -- is nominated for a Grammy. We'll talk about making the audience squirm, how talking about cancer boosted her career, and how This American Life is the new Tonight Show, which makes Ira Glass the new Johnny Carson. Tig Notaro is on stage at the Bloomington Center for the Performing Arts on January 10th. We start out talking about Taylor Dayne. The 80's pop star is the subject of one of her funniest bits called a "Deeply Personal Story About Taylor Dayne" and I asked her "how is Taylor Dayne?"
