BN Jobless Rate 7% In Nov; Peoria Rate 8.9%

The state Department of Employment Security said local unemployment rose in nearly all of the state's metro areas during November. Bloomington-Normal's rate jumped to 7% compared to 6.1% November of last year. Peoria's rate went up nearly a point and a half, landing last month at 8.9%. The Peoria area lost about 3,100 jobs. The department said today rates increased in eleven metro areas, falling in only the Chicago-Joliet-Naperville metro to 8.1 percent. State officials said temporary layoffs pushed rates higher.
