The new Country Financial Index shows Americans feeling pretty good about their future as the year wraps up. The index of at least 3,000 people by the Bloomington-based company shows 32% feel their finances will bet better in the coming year. That percentage may seem small, but Country's Joe Buhrmann says it marks a big change:
"And that is the most optimism we've seen about the year ahead in the last six years. You have to go back to December of 2007, when it was at 42%. So that's the most optimism we've see about the coming year in nearly six years."
Buhrmann says the survey also shows 48% are paying down debt, and expect to earn more in 2014. The only downside to the Index is in savings. For the first time since December 2011, fewer than half of Americans say they're able to save money.
