Attention, train fans. The Chicago Transit Authority is selling off signs, seats and even an old rail car to the highest bidder. The CTA is holding an online auction to part with 100 relics, ranging from a small section of a third rail to a 2200-series rail car built more than 40 years ago. The agency calls it a chance for transit fans to own a piece of Chicago history. The 100 items include bus stop signs, seats, doors, rail ties, crossing gates and rail station clocks. Some of them are decades old. The bidding started yesterday and continues through December 18th.
The auction is being run by Rick Levin Associates through its website: www.ricklevin.com
