A 34 year old man from Normal faces a mandatory sentence of life in prison for drug conspiracy after today's conviction in Peoria federal court. A jury deliberated about three hours before returning the guilty verdict against Richard George Martin. The U-S Attorney's office says Martin was charged with having five kilograms of cocaine with the intent to sell it. The span of time of the drug dealing ranged from 1999 to 2011. Martin's conviction is the latest as a result of "Operation Prairie Eagle," a cooperative investigation targeting distribution of crack cocaine and marijuana in the Bloomington-Normal area. Since 2011, "Operation Prairie Eagle" has resulted in the conviction of 22 defendants. Martin is scheduled to be sentenced on April 7th of next year.
