An off duty Bloomington Police Officer has been arrested for DUI after a one vehicle crash. State Troopers arrested Officer Troy Doza when Bloomington Police called them in to the accident on Fox Creek House during the early morning hours of Sunday. Chief of Police Brendan Heffner has been on the job for about a month. During a recent GLT interview, Heffner said leadership can influence the moral character of a police department and it starts with communication.

"You talk about the problem, look for reasons why it happened. You look for ways to minimize that ever happening again."

Officer Doza was treated and released from an area hospital. The Bloomington Department has placed Doza on paid administrative leave. And unlike during a controversial incident in which then Assistant Chief Bob Wall had a crash and left the scene of an accident, this time the Bloomington force has asked State Police to handle the criminal case. Bloomington Police say they will do a separate internal investigation.
