Bond is set at $1 million for a South Carolina man charged with driving under the influence for a crash that killed an on-duty Pontiac police officer. Livingston County prosecutors say 33-year-old Jason C. Collins of West Columbia, S.C. was driving a pickup truck on Interstate 55 in Pontiac last week when his vehicle left the roadway and struck a marked K-9 vehicle parked in a median turn around. Prosecutors told Judge Jennifer Bauknecht that video recorded at a Bloomington bar shows Collins was there for approximately five hours immediately preceding the accident. Twenty-nine-year-old officer Casey J. Kohlmeier and Collins were taken to OSF Saint James-John W. Albrecht Medical Center, where Kohlmeier was pronounced dead. Kohlmeier's police
dog, Draco, was also killed.
