The Normal Town Council and Illinois State University are ready to finalize the agreement to create University Art Galleries space in Uptown Station. The proposal first became public last spring. If the Town Council approves the deal Monday, the Town would spend $1.9 million to finish the now vacant space under the Uptown Parking Deck. ISU would repay that over four years with 4% annual interest. The art gallery would be open six or seven days a week at least nine hours a day. ISU would also get four parking spaces in the deck at no charge. If the agreement moves forward, the new space would open in the fall of 12014 with a five year lease. ISU leaders say they want to extend arts programming into the community. The town wants to improve the vacant space in Uptown Station.
