A governing body has reinstated three high school football players from central Illinois after their ineligibility cost their previously undefeated team a victory.
The Illinois High School Association is announcing the Rochester High School athletes have been reinstated. They'll be allowed to play in the state playoffs. The Bloomington-based association announced over the weekend that the Rockets would forfeit its 38-33 September win over Sacred Heart Griffin High School. The three-time Class 4A state champion had been undefeated all season. Last week, the school self-reported the violation in which a booster group paid for championship rings for the players. The school's principal, Dennis Canny, welcomed the reinstatement. He calls the three teenagers ``fine young men'' who had no knowledge that rules had been broken.
