A LaSalle County second-grade teacher got the red carpet treatment when she returned to her classroom in Sandwich. Pam Reilly was named this year's Illinois Teacher of the Year. Reilly's students at Woodbury Elementary greeted her with a paper red carpet on Monday. Reilly was named the state's top educator during a weekend awards dinner. She was chosen from a pool of 11 finalists and will represent the state in a national competition. Principal Shirley DeCorte says she nominated Reilly for the award because she always puts students first and finds "creative ways to make sure they are all included in the learning process." Reilly has taught for 12 years and graduated from Aurora University and National Louis University.
