A Federal Judge has sentenced a Peoria area gas station owner to nearly four years in prison for mail and income tax fraud. 51-year old Lakhvir Nijher pleaded guilty earlier this year to filing a false tax return after under-reporting sales at a Peoria Heights BP station and another station in Washington, Illinois by an estimated $1 million.. Nihjer will serve a 45 month sentence and will also have to pay the government nearly $740,000 in restitution. The case is part of a statewide crack down on the gas station industry for suspected systematic sales tax fraud.
