A suburban Chicago gun shop is catering to female customers. The gun range and retail store Maxon has a monthly ladies night. It has seen steady growth in the number of female customers. Two years ago Maxon co-owner Claudia Levin started a monthly ladies night. She says the male-dominated sport is changing. Women come to the store for safety classes, range shooting and competitive shooting programs. Levin estimates about 75 percent of her female customers are learning to shoot for self defense. She says the rest come for fun. More than 4,000 of the Illinois State Rifle Association's members are women.
