Mitsubishi Motors North American sales dropped nearly 17% last month. A significant chunk of the decline in September comes because this year counts two fewer selling days than last year's period because of the Labor Day Holiday which was counted in August this year. But, sales of the automaker that has an assembly plant in Normal would still have been down nearly 10% with a more accurate comparison. Sales of the Outlander Sport made in Normal were down slightly more than the average for Mitsubishi. The company says it is counting on shipments of the new Mirage 5-door sub-compact to revive Mitsubishi momentum. The company is billing the new Mirage as the most fuel efficient NON-hybrid vehicle on the market. Year to date sales for Mitsubishi are down only 2.5%. Overall industry sales dropped about 4% percent in the U.S. and Canada. Sales of Ford and Chrysler rose last month. General Motors dropped 11%.
