Bloomington Normal unemployment edged down last month to 7.2%. The state Department of Employment Security says jobless rates dropped in eight of Illinois' 12 metro areas in August as schools started back. Some areas dependent on manufacturing saw increases. In Peoria, for instance, the unemployment rate rose from 8% to 8.7% compared to August of a year ago. Department Director Jay Rowell says the number of jobs grew in only four metro areas and declined in eight of the largest cities in the state. Bloomington Normal has 1,400 fewer jobs than at this time last year due to declines in the Government and Professional and Business Services Sector. Peoria is down by 3,500 positions because of manufacturing and Professional and Business Service declines.
